Our Selection |
|
We would share with you a few principles during our wine selection process. We won't offer you a wine we haven't tasted, or a wine we don't fully endorse. We select wine-makers and their wines based on quality alone and there is no other reason. We respect grower's associations many of which are sincere and they can be helpful in prospecting, but we really care about is what in the glass not on the capsule. We won't treat our wines as things or products. That's why we don't care whether the same wine is good every year. If wine A isn't happening this year, wine B will be and we just choose the better one. We would like to present you the following portfolio and will commit ourselves for further exploration. |
Eduard Kroth Estate
The Eduard Kroth Estate is suited on the steep bank of the Mosel in the idyllic village of Briedel. The family owned winery has produced wine since 1503 and has been operated by Bartho and Daniela Kroth since 2004, when they took over the estate from their father Eduard.
The winery's premier vineyard is Königslay-Terrassen in Merl in Zell, Mosel. The site is extremely steep with 70% inclines, facing south and possesses a microclimate that is very conductive to noble sweet wines. In these precipitous slate slopes, they grow almost exclusively Riesling wine and added the red wines Spätburgunder and Dornfelder during recent years. The well-known wine maker Albert Kallfelz at Mosel commented in his book "Wine, Human and Nature" that this vineyard is among the most top vineyards at Mosel region with just 3 hectares.
Unlike many other German wineries, Bartho is focused on selling retailers instead of the end consumer directly at the winery.
Bartho Kroth has already won many awards in both state and federal competitions and is considered at the forefront of a group of up-and-coming young Mosel vintners.

Stefan Fischer Estate
Stefan Fisher Estate has a ten-generation of wine making history. The vineyards of the estate are same as those of the most reputable names in Mosel and include the sites of Nu¦Âberg and Burglay Felsen at Mosel. The terroir consists mainly of slates, which absorb heat very well and provide ideal conditions for Riesling with raciness and minerality.
As a trained winemaker and oenologist, Stefan Fischer particularly values "viticulture close to nature." Instead of producing large quantities, he focuses on smaller harvests that produce high quality.
Stefan Fischer has already won many awards in both state and federal competitions and is considered at the forefront of a group of up-and-coming young Mosel vintners.

Karlheinz Weis Estate
The two-hundred-year family-owned estate has been in the hands of Karlheinz Weis since 2001, when he picked up the production from his father. Like most Mosel wineries, the estate produces mainly Riesling, followed by Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Dornfelder and M¨¹ller-Thurgau. Its vineyard Burglay Felsen is Zell's top site on the southern side of the Mosel. The ground consists of slate with a higher percentage of finer soil and is very steep with inclines of up to 70%. At the top of the slope lies a forest, which retains much needed moisture. During dry periods, water from the forest floor is released into the sub-soils of the vineyards below to reduce vine-stress during drought periods. This site mainly produces Riesling.
Karlheinz Weis has already won many awards in both state and federal competitions and is considered at the forefront of a group of up-and-coming young Mosel vintners.

Richard Scheid Estate
The winery's premier vineyard is Burglay Felsen in Zell, Mosel. Its terrior consists mainly of slates and pebble stones, which hold little water and shape vines that are deep-rooted to access water and necessary minerals. At the top of the slope lies a forest, which retains much needed moisture. During dry periods, water from the forest floor is released into the sub-soils of the vineyards below to reduce vine-stress during drought periods.
Quality not quantity matters to Richard Scheid. Through selective harvesting of the grapes, limited yields, tender care of the vines and environmentally friendly fertilization, he practices viticulture that is close to the nature.
Richard Scheid has already won many awards in both state and federal competitions and is considered at the forefront of a group of up-and-coming young Mosel vintners.
