Dear Friends of Fine Wines,
Fine Riesling wines can be extremely long lived. The more concentrated, in particular the higher in acidity and residual sugar, the longer it will usually improve. In the extreme cases, like Riesling Beerenauslese, Trockenbeerenauslese (TBA) or Ice Wine (Eiswein), that can mean decades or even beyond our lifetimes. These Riesling wines that were 50, 60 or 70 years old still had fruit and plenty of depth and in fact they are always at the very least, interesting.
Mature wines are a wonderful surprise to serve on special occasions, e.g. an anniversary. Often, it’s not easy to find a particular vintage to match the occasion. This is the reason enough for lovers of mature wines to maintain their own stock.
