Wine Description Subtly botrytized and juicy in texture, this Auslese is dense, yet elegant on the palate with peach, tropical fruits and caramel. A vivid tempting aroma of peach in the nose and on the palate the taste of fruit is here dominated. Similar in degree to the concentrated aromas and flavors of fruits and caramel, it is also supported by a vibrant acidity. As a typical Mosel Riesling, it has outstanding balance between fruit, sweetness and acidity. A tension develops between the balance and density. More about intensity than finesse. It is wine for an aperitif before rich meal or for a pleasant drink with friends. |

Karlheinz Weis Estate
The two-hundred-year family-owned estate has been in the hands of Karlheinz Weis since 2001, when he picked up the production from his father. Like most Mosel wineries, the estate produces mainly Riesling, followed by Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Dornfelder and M¨¹ller-Thurgau. Its vineyard Burglay Felsen is Zell's top site on the southern side of the Mosel. The ground consists of slate with a higher percentage of finer soil and is very steep with inclines of up to 70%. At the top of the slope lies a forest, which retains much needed moisture. During dry periods, water from the forest floor is released into the sub-soils of the vineyards below to reduce vine-stress during drought periods. This site mainly produces Riesling.
Karlheinz Weis has already won many awards in both state and federal competitions and is considered at the forefront of a group of up-and-coming young Mosel vintners.
